Jack is the ACC co-wrestler of the week
RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 9 -- North Carolina State sophomore Kevin Jack (Danbury) was named the co-wrestler of the week by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Jack, a 141-pound sophomore, earned two wins last week over top 10 opponents. ... Somers’ Kyle Foster (285, Roger Williams) won two matches in Roger Williams' matches with Harvard and Brown. ... Wednesday, February 17
Undefeated Brunswick beats Greenwich
On Saturday, Brunswick School captured its second straight Western New England championship with four individual champions and seven finalists with a dominating 278-187 win over Trinity-Pawling. On Tuesday night, they picked up another emotional win with a 45-25 win over Greenwich High to win the town championship. The Bruins had five pins to beat the Cardinals for the third time in four years. On Saturday, all 14 Brunwick wrestlers finished in the top six of their weight class at the Western New England tournament. Andrew Hennessey (126), Jon Errico (145), Lucas Bell (170) and Joe Fervil (285) each won titles with Brooks Hennessey (120), John DeLucia (138) and Alex Burdick (106) finishing second. Errico beat two-time All-American Stephen Thibault of Avon Old Farms to win at 145. … Danbury, New Milford, Windham High, Middletown and Bristol Eastern are the top five in the state coaches poll. Danbury, Windham and Middletown finished the dual meet season undefeated.

Saturday, February 13
Danbury brings home another FCIAC title
No. 1 Danbury was impressive at the Joe Sikorski FCIAC championship meet with six individual champions, nine finalists and 11 wrestlers finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes. The Hatters won by 82 points with a 277-195 margin of victory over second place Trumbull. Fairfield Warde was third with 183 points. “It’s probably the best I’ve seen our guys wrestle all year,” Danbury coach Ricky Shook told the Danbury News Times. “We’re peaking at the right time. We’re on a roll right now, and we’re wrestling really well.” … At the Eastern Connecticut Conference championship meet, Windham remains the team to beat. The Whippets put eight wrestlers in the finals and had three individual champions to hold off a late surge from Ledyard and win the ECC title for the second straight year. Ledyard did win the ECC Large Division title. Matt Dowler (138) of St. Bernard/Norwich Tech won his third straight ECC title and extended his state record for career pins. … Foran-Milford set a new state record with 35 dual meet wins. The Lions added to that with a 141-130 win over Xavier to win their first SCC championship. Hand was third with 129½ points. It’s Foran’s first title since 1986 when they won the Cross County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CCIAC) crowd. Foran had three champions and four finalists but they had eight wrestlers finish in the top four of their respective weight classes. Foran’s Ryan Luth (132) earned outstanding wrestler honors. … New Milford won the SWC championship for the eleventh time in 12 years with a comfortable 246-166 win over Newtown. The Green Wave had eight wrestlers in the finals and seven won. New Fairfield was third in with 140½ points. … In the closest finish ever in NCCC Tournament history, Somers had four wins in the finals and two by pin to nip Granby, 145 to 142½ and win the tournament for the first time. The Bears, who won the league title, had four winners in the finals, all by pin. … Terryville had individual champions in four weight classes as they beat Nonnewaug, 170-132 to win the Berkshire Valley Invitational for the second straight year. Nonnewaug’s Kieran Duggan (152) was named outstanding wrestler. … In the first Constitution State Conference tournament since 2011, Ellis Tech had individual champions in 10 of 14 weight classes to capture the CSC Tournament over Harding of Bridgeport, 160-85. Wolcott Tech’s Anton Dziedzic (152) won the fast fall award with 2 pins in 54 seconds and was named the outstanding wrestler

Danbury, Windham hold lead after day 1 of league tournaments
Danbury has the lead after day 1 of the FCIAC Tournament with a 111-79 advantage over Fairfield Warde. You can follow the tournament online live on the HAN Network. In the Eastern Connecticut Conference, Windham and Killingly are virtually tied after the quarterfinal round. You can follow the ECC Tournament on FloArena.

Thursday, February 11
Three conference tourneys begin Friday
The conference tournaments begin Friday with action in the FCIAC, SWC and ECC Tournaments. All three are two-day events. The NCCC, Berkshire Valley, SCC and Constitution State tournaments are one-day affairs on Saturday. The Berkshire Valley tournament consists of four teams from the Berkshire League and five teams from the Naugatuck Valley League. There will also be an exhibition tournament at Berlin for those Central Connecticut Conference schools that want to compete the week before the state tournament.

Foran tops Xavier for 35th win, SCC A title
With nine victories, including four pins and a tech fall, Foran won the Southern Connecticut Conference A Division title with a 43-24 win over Xavier. Foran (35-3) extended their own state record for most dual meet wins in a single season. … In a meet that saw the lead change three times in the final seven bouts, Nonnewaug outlasted Terryville, 39-33 to close in on its fifth Berkshire League title in the last seven years. … Conard’s Josh Henry finished the regular season undefeated with a 28-0 record as the Chieftains beat cross-town rival Hall, 54-27. … Middletown finished undefeated (19-0) for the first time in school history with a 45-23 win over Berlin to clinch the CCC South championship. It is the first title for the Dragons since 2008 (Northwest Conference). The Redcoats (8-13) wrestled well in the loss, winning six of seven matches on the mat. … Brien McMahon had three pins in the final three matches to surge past Norwalk, 40-39. … East Hartford (22-3) beat Manchester, 38-31 to win its first CCC North championship and its first conference title since 2005 (CCC East). … Southington beat New Britain, 60-19 to win its first CCC West crown since 2012. …

Wilton tops Darien in Vano's final bout
Wilton beat Darien, 51-30 in the final match for Blue Wave head coach Joe Vano after 21 years behind the bench. Darien closes out the year at 9-11. His 2011 team set a new single season school record with a 20-3 campaign and took sixth place in Class L… No. 1 Danbury finished undefeated (18-0) with a 68-3 win over Greenwich. It is the 11th time in team history (a state record) that the Hatters have finished unbeaten and the first time that they've run the table since 2012. … The Norwich Bulletin’s state coaches poll remained the same this week. There was no change among the top 10 teams in the poll. … Terryville travels to Nonnewaug Wednesday with the winner moving in position to win the Berkshire League championship. … East Hartford can clinch the CCC North title with a win over Manchester. … Southington can clinch the CCC West title with a win over New Britain. … E.O. Smith can win the CCC East crown with a win over Rockville. … Middletown can claim the CCC South title with a win at Berlin. … Granby can win its first NCCC title since 2004 with a win over Coventry. ... Other big rivalries on Wednesday night include Hall at Conard; Westhill at Stamford; Bristol Eastern at Bristol Central, Simsbury at Farmington and Maloney at Platt.
