Camacho finishes 
5th at Beast of East
Danbury junior Jakob Camacho (120) finished fifth at the Beast of the East tournament in Newark, DE on Sunday. Camacho lost in the quarterfinals by one on a takedown with 11 seconds remaining but won three of his four consolation round bouts to finish fifth. He went 6-2 in the two-day event. Sophomore teammate Kyle Fields (126) went 4-2 with four straight wins in the consolation bracket. Ryan Jack (106) and Ben LeBlanc (113) were each 2-2. Blair Academy (NJ) won the tournament for the 17th straight year. Danbury was 63rd in the field of 109 teams. … Shelton (3-0) remained undefeated with wins over Amity and Masuk in a tri-meet on Sunday.

Camacho has three wins at Beast of East tourney
Six Danbury High wrestlers are competing at the Beast of the East tournament in Newark, Delaware with wrestlers from all over the country including California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and New Jersey. Sophomore Kyle Fields (126) is still alive in the consolation bracket with a 4-1 record. Junior Jakob Camacho (120) is the round of 16 with three wins, including two pins. Freshmen Ryan Jack (106), A.J. Kovacs (145), junior Gino Baratta (160) and sophomore Ben LeBlanc (113) have been eliminated. Kovacs was 0-2 while Baratta and LeBlance were 1-2. Jack was 2-2. The tournament continues Sunday at the Bob Carpenter Center here in Newark on the campus of the University of Delaware. … No. 3 Fairfield Warde had six individual champions and seven finalists to lead the Mustangs to a 18-point victory over cross-town rival Fairfield Ludlowe at the 11th annual Ludlowe Invitational. Staples finished third. Due to the snow, six other teams did not participate. Ludlowe had six finalists and 11 wrestlers in the top four. Harding had two individual champions at 220 and 285. … Snow isn’t unusual in New England. The wrestling community has been fortunate to avoid snow on the first big weekend of the wrestling season but not this year. Several tournaments were snowed out for the first time ever Saturday thanks to snow across Connecticut including the Mike O’Keefe Classic at Pomperaug in Southbury (debuted in 1979), the Derby Invitational (debuted in 1992), the Shelton Invitational (began in 2011) and Plainville Invitational (began in 2002). The Lancer Invitational in Waterford, the Skip Arden Tournament in Manchester and the C.J. McCormick Invitational in Berlin were cancelled due to the snow. .... In Marion, Mass., Greenwich-based Brunswick finished third in the Battle on the Bay at Tabor Academy. Northfield Mt. Hermon won with 198½ points followed by Phillips-Exeter (174) and Brunswick (171). Aiden Reynolds (182) won for Brunswick while Lachlan Rosato (220) was second. Andrew Hennessy (126), Brooks Hennessy (132) and John DeLucia (152) each finished third. Twenty-two teams participated.

Two top 10 teams earn opening night wins
A pair of top 10 teams earned season-opening victories on Thursday. No. 2 New Milford had four pins and took advantage of six forfeits in a 69-9 win over Bethel. … No. 6 Newtown dominated New Milford with a 61-9 decision. The Nighthawks had six pins and won four matches by decision.

Windham rallies to extend winning streak to 56 straight
New London had four pins in the first five matches to take a 24-6 lead but No. 6 Windham won seven of the final nine bouts to earn a 47-33 win over the Whalers and extend their school-record winning streak to 56 in a row. … Xavier came one pin away from tying the state record for most pins in a match with 12 in a 78-6 win over Jonathan Law. Three teams share the record of 13 pins in a match (Danbury, Stafford, New Milford). … No. 9 Ellis Tech had nine pins in a 66-9 win over St. Paul. … Down 21 points, Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech scored 51 consecutive points to beat NFA, 51-21. … Travis Cheung, Zach Marin, Luke Popolizio, Alex Wackelin, Jermaine Carter, Kyle Wolkner, and Izaek Bulibek each pins as Farmington opened the season with a 66-18 win over E.O. Smith. … Brunswick-Greenwich improved to 5-1 with a 58-16 win over Choate Rosemary Hall (5-2). Aiden Reynolds (182) and Lachlan Rosato each improved to 9-1 with victories. … Fairfield Ludlowe had eight pins in a 51-24 victory over Staples. … Platt High had eight pins in 72-12 win over Windsor. .. Southington had 10 pins in a 69-6 win over Enfield. .. With four pins and five forfeits, Northwestern Regional beat Nonnewaug for the first time, 54-24 in school history. … Terryville beat Notre Dame-West Haven, 63-12 in the first-ever varsity match for Notre Dame. Cameron Barnes (152) got the first pin and first victory in team history for ND-WH. … After five pins and two forfeits that saw Avon take a three-point lead, Simsbury freshman Noah Pryzbek (120) won by pin in the final match to lift Simsbury to a 42-39 victory.

Danbury is No. 1 in preseason top 10 poll
Danbury is ranked No. 1 in the Norwich Bulletin’s preseason coaches poll that was released Sunday. The Hatters, who were 18-0 a year ago, received 14 of 15 first place votes. New Milford, Fairfield Warde, Foran and Trumbull round out the top five in the preseason poll. Windham and Newtown, who received a first place vote, finished tied at No. 6 with Bristol Eastern ranked eighth, Ellis Tech ranked ninth and Ledyard being ranked tenth. Seventeen other teams received at least one vote. The season begins Wednesday.

College campaign off and running
The collegiate wrestling season is well underway. Danbury junior Kevin Jack (141) is off to a 10-1 start with No. 9 North Carolina State. Freshman Alex Opsal (125) has seven pins at 125 for Air Force. In New England, Springfield won their own Doug Parker Invitational as the Division III campaign is off and running across New England. Danbury wrestling program inducted into Hall of Fame
DANBURY – There are plenty of teams that have been inducted into athletic Hall of Fames at schools around Connecticut. In Danbury, they recently inducted the entire wrestling program – all 50 years – into the Danbury Athletic Hall of Fame. Every member of the wrestling program from that first day in December 1966 through today will be a part of the Danbury Athletic Hall of Fame.

Brunswick takes third at Loomis Chaffee Duals
John DeLucia (152, 9-0), Lachlan Rosato (195, 8-1) and Tim Saunders (170, 8-1) each won four matches as Brunswick School-Greenwich finished third at the Loomis Chaffee Holiday Duals in Windsor. DeLucia and Rosato each had four pins on the day. St. Benedict Prep of New Jersey won the tournament with a 47-25 win over Northfield Mt. Hermon.

Brunswick dominates to win Rumble on the Hill
NEW HAVEN, Dec. 3 -- Brunswick School in Greenwich opened the season with a dominating 310 to 154½ victory over Trinity-Pawling to win the Rumble on the Hill at the Hopkins School in New Haven. The Bruins had five individual champions and 11 wrestlers in the finals. Andrew Hennessey (126), Brooks Hennessy (132), Nadji Ngbokoli (138), John DeLucia (145) and Aiden Reynolds (182) each won for Brunswick. Rishi Das (113), McLain Kingery (138), Emmett Bell (152), Tim Saunders (170), Jack Ocken (195) and Lachlan Rosato (220) each finished second.
