Jack wins 100th collegiate match
Danbury’s Kevin Jack of North Carolina State (141) earned his 100th career victory with a 9-3 win over Chad Red of Nebraska Friday night. Jack (8-0) is ranked No. 2 in the nation at 141 with Red ranked at No. 8.
Jack, a senior with the Wolfpack, has won 41 of his last 42 matches and is 22 wins shy of the all-time career record for wins at North Carolina State. He is just the fifth man in school history to win at least 100 career matches.
Red, who went 183-0 in high school, is now 10-4. He was fourth at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Jack’s win helped No. 6 North Carolina State remain undefeated (10-0) with a 29-3 win over No. 12 Nebraska (2-1).

Wesleyan is ranked No. 20 in the nation boosted by the strong start of Connecticut wrestlers Isaiah Bellamy (285) and Devon Carrillo (197).
Bellamy, a senior from Bozrah, pinned James Bethel of SUNY Oneonta – the previous No. 3 wrestler in the country – at the RIT Invitational to win the heavyweight title. He's a perfect 13-0 this season with 11 pins, and has won all three tournaments he's competed in.
Carrillo, a two-time NCAA qualifier and a graduate student from Middletown, has won two titles at 197 so far this season. His lone loss was in the championship match of the Roger Williams Tournament. They helped Wesleyan win the Doug Parker Invitational in December.

New Fairfield’s Alec Opsal (141) won his first two matches of the season with Air Force. He was named the Air Force Cadet/Athlete of the Week in November for his cradle and pin that helped Air Force to a 24-12 win over Big 12 foe Fresno State in the unprecedented Battle on the Midway, hosted on the flight deck of the USS Midway. Opsal lost his first bout of the season at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, dropping a match to All-American Josh Alber of Northern Iowa.

Trumbull freshman Tristan Haviland of Roger Williams (133) was named the New England Wrestling Association’s (NEWA) Rookie of the Week. Haviland beat Ian Tolotti of Springfield, 7-2 last week. Tolotti was ranked No. 2 in New England at the time and was a medalwinner at last year’s NCAA Division III Northeast Regional.
Roger Williams beat Springfield in a dual meet, 23-15 as Roger Williams won six of 10 bouts. Somers’ Adam Patsun (285) won by pin in 5:53 to secure the victory for the undefeated Hawks (5-0). New Fairfield’s Taylor Shay (165) earned a 11-6 victory over Springfield’s Aarin Feliz.

Williams beat Trinity, 22-20 despite the Bantams winning five of the eight bouts wrestled on the mat. Trinity did give up a pair of forfeits. Trinity’s Lukas Kaminski (165) got a nice 3-0 win over Jake Savoca of Williams, while Williams’ Luke Anselmi beat Nolan Cornu 3-2

Johnson and Wales is ranked No. 1 in the nation in Division III – the first team at the school to be ranked No. 1.
Last year, the Wildcats got as high as No. 3. JWU won the New Standard and Roger Williams Invitational and finished second at the Ithaca Invitational. Junior Khamri Thomas of Windsor Locks (184) who is 8-0 with four pins is ranked No. 6 in the nation. …Also is the top 25 is No. 18 Roger Williams, No. 19 WPI and No. 20 Wesleyan
