Newest edition of state record book is released
AVON, Dec. 4, 2016 -- We’re proud to release the 14th edition of the Connecticut High School Wrestling Record Book, recognizing the achievements of athletes and coaches on the mat here in Connecticut.

There were several notable achievements in 2016. Foran’s Ryan Luth (132 pounds) tied a state record for most wins in a single season with 55. Luth was 55-4 in Connecticut and New England competition, tying the record set by Tyler Banks of Griswold (55-3) nine years earlier in 2007.

Luth helped Foran-Milford set a new single season mark for most victories in a season with 35. Foran went 35-3, snapping the previous record of 33 wins set by cross-town rival Jonathan Law-Milford in 2007.

Ledyard became the team with the most wins in state history with 805 wins. The Colonels hold a slight lead over Danbury with 801 wins. Conard (795) and Windham (787) are the next schools in line for 800 wins in program history.

Windham comes into the season with a 55 match winning streak that dates back to 2012. It is the fourth longest streak in state history behind Danbury (96), Manchester (61) and New Milford (61).

Last year, Newtown’s Anthony Falbo won his third State Open championship. This year, the Purdue-bound senior could become just the third wrestler in state history to win capture four Open titles if he can win again.

New information in this year’s record book includes the Connecticut All-Americans from the USA Wrestling championships held each summer in Fargo, North Dakota.
